Summary

 

Person-centered Medicine is the paradigm shift of Medicine, medical science, and medical education, based on the interactionist revolution of the basic sciences, determining the relativity of biological reactions to the person and the teleonomy of human nature. The paradigm was theorized with the publication of the Manifesto of Person- centered Medicine in 1999, by the Ambrosiana University that introduced it as paradigm in the post-university training of doctors from the academic year 1999-2000. The paradigm gave rise to a change in the concept of health presented in 2005 and then in 2011 at the WHO defined as ” The choice of the best possibilities to be the best human person”. The new paradigm of health is founded on the quality of the teleonomic interaction of variables belonging to subjectivity ( spirit (demand for meaning), emotions, affects; biological variables; the relationship with the environment.  Health appears relative to the possibilities of the experience and is therefore determined by 95% of the life chosen and made possible.

The paradigm is realized through the change of the clinical method, which since 1999 has taken the name of  Person-centered clinical method, whose essence is the initial question of the doctor: “Who is the person I am facing” and not ” What has”, putting in parentheses  the anxiety of clinical diagnosis. The revolution of the clinical method is the introduction of the “Diacrisis” aimed at the  “person’s diagnosis “, based on the anatomy of empathic phenomena and the interlocutory finalized, first of all to highlight the patient’s strength points and  resources ,  before the problems,  in the three dimensions: of health.

The doctor, with the Person-centered clinical method, is called to be a maieuta of the human person, making the medicine a maieutic anthropology.
